Electrical Designer (Detroit, Michigan) Position Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Designer (Detroit, Michigan) who will collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field teams to develop accurate and code-compliant electrical designs that meet customer and project requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience designing electrical systems for commercial and industrial construction projects, including lighting, power distribution, and control systems.

Electrical Designer Responsibilities:

  • Design and draft electrical plans, schematics, one-line diagrams, and panel schedules using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software.
  • Develop layouts for lighting, power, and low-voltage systems in accordance with NEC and local codes.
  • Perform load calculations, circuiting, and panel schedules for commercial and industrial projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers and estimators during the pre-construction phase to assist with scope definition and material takeoffs.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural, mechanical, and civil teams to integrate electrical designs into overall project drawings.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for compliance with design intent and specifications.
  • Assist in preparing as-built drawings and documentation for project closeout.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry trends, codes, and technologies.

Electrical Designer Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 3+ years of electrical design experience in commercial or industrial construction environments.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD; Revit experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and industrial electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, lighting controls, and panelboards.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
